Use the Proper Resolution and Image Size:
Photos must be resized to be web-friendly. High resolution photos take a long time to load on a web page, even when scaled down to smaller sizes. As a standard, resolution should be no larger than 72 dpi (dots per inch) and the longest edge of your photo should be no longer than 600px (pixels). There are several free, web-based photo editors you can use to retouch, adjust color, crop and resize photos: Adobe Photo Editor, CloudCanvas, FotoFlexer, Pixlr. Note: Be sure to save the image under a new name using the File menu and selecting "Save As..." so that you do not alter your original image.
Upload Photo to the Web:
1. Click the Assets tab on the left.
2. Click the New button, and in the drop down menu click Image.
3. Fill in the various fields as follows:
a. File. Click the browse button on the right and locate your image. Once selected, click Open.
b. Title. Enter a title according to this structure:
Identity_Name_Region_Description_Year
- Identity: Choose one entity from the following list:
Faculty
Staff
Student
Alumni
Event
- Name: Identify who is in this picture (names) or where these pictures are from (events).
- Region: Give the location of the event. For internship photos this can be city and country where the photo was taken, or for on-campus events, enter where on campus the event took place.
- Description: A brief description providing additional details useful to someone who might search for this photo.
- Year: Can be month and year, or just year in four digits (2010).

Are you placing images in a Photo Gallery? Please continue by filling out these fields:
c. Alt Text. This is a brief descriptor (three words) which hovers over the image of who or what is in the photo. Enter faculty or event names here as identifiers.
d. Caption. Captions are important for photo galleries. Please fill out (at the very minimum) the names of who appears in the photo. Less than 30 words.
e. Date Taken. Select the date of the event from the calendar view. This is NOT the date you are uploading the photo but the date the photo was taken. If unsure, use your best guess.
f. Description. Use the same description for all of the photos in your gallery. Think of this as a short summary of the event and include the date, name of the event, sponsors of the event, and names of any special guests, hosts, or IR/PS faculty members who attended. Again this is to be consistent across every photo in the gallery.
4. Now click the Save button in the top left corner. Your image is now available to use on a web page or in a photo gallery.
Upload Multiple Photos at Once:
Before uploading multiple files: Name the files on your computer using the convention listed above. Otherwise you will have to do this manually for each asset when you upload them. If you upload photos without adding descriptive titles, Communications will delete them from PWP.
1. Click the Assets tab on the left.
2. Click the Add Multiple Assets button at the top of the asset list.

3. Click Add Files.

4. Select your files to upload.

5. Click Upload. The editor will cycle through each file and upload it to our assets database. When it finishes, you may exit the dialogue box and find your files using the search options at the top of the list. When you finish a multiple upload, please be sure that all of your uploads have the proper information attached.
